Dogs vs Bears Showdown

(Press release from the Ice Dogs)

August has to be the most exciting month of AIHL action as teams race for a playoff spot and a shot at the Goodall Cup, even more so now with the Playoff weekend actually featuring in the last weekend of August instead of a week later in September. Coaches of some teams are preparing for likely matchups and fans/players of others are praying for an undefeated streak so their team can knock out someone in the final four.

The Ice Dogs have been that team! Looking to win the last 10 in a row to make playoffs in the last dying moments. But not this year! This year the Dogs are in 3rd and in a rat race to keep their spot or climb to 2nd. They have bigger challenges at hand and the Penrith Bears seem to be one of them. The pups have failed to upset the Bears since the 2006 season and they are looking to reverse the curse come Saturday August 16, 5:45pm at the Sydney Ice Arena. For hockey fans in Sydney, this would definitely be a game to pencil in for many reasons, from the lengthy rivalry to the possibility that this could be a Semi or Grand Final match up come playoff weekend hosted in Newcastle.

The tricky Penrith Bears are 5-5-0-0 in their last ten games but still remain the top of the table with plenty of games in hand. The thirsty pups on the other hand are 7-2-0-1 in their last ten as they try to make up for some lost ground earlier in the season. For the Bears this game means getting back on track since their loss to the Northstars and maintaining their voodoo over the Dogs. For the Ice Dogs this game is critical in staying in 3rd as the Northstars clip at their heels in 4th and putting a dent in the Bears confidence against them. Either way this game is huge and you can be rest assured both teams will be at full flight in a blockbuster of an event as they battle for turf ownership at the Sydney Ice Arena.
