The Battle of Sydney
Written by Scott Stephenson on Wednesday, 12 May 2010 08:23

Two teams with the most historic rivalry in the AIHL will match up this Saturday night May 15th at the LCC Sports Complex. The BANQ Ice Dogs take on the Penrith Bears on home turf with the puck set to drop at 5pm. The Bears are coming off a tough Melbourne Adelaide road trip and are looking for redemption as the BANQ Ice Dogs are hungry for their first win of the season. It is shaping up to be quite the ice hockey game. To heat things up even more the Bears have at least four ex-ice dogs in their line up looking to show up their old team with the Dogs sure to make them pay the price.

For the Sydney ice hockey community it is a chance to see some of the new recruits on the Ice Dogs such as their highest profile signing in club history Derek Campbell and the nifty addition of import Andrew DeCristoforo. The Bears have also injected some serious talent in Eric Begin, Vlad Pelikovsky and Mical Lauko and have the solid and talented Micheal Schlamp back on the squad after a years break.

Pups Club kids that show up to the game will receive a free player poster to hang on their wall and the game is proudly sponsored by EA Sports NHL 10 who have donated the video game as the prize that is to be raffled off! The Ice Dogs are also having a Home Opener Jersey Clearance sale, with pre-warn Ice Dogs Jerseys on sale for as low as $15 a jersey, but only available at either of the Ice Dogs home games this weekend.

It is all happening this Saturday May 15th at the LCC Sports Complex at 5pm, so don't miss out as the AIHL season is finally underway and in full swing! For more information see www.icedogs.com.au

Ice Dogs sign Highest Profile Import in Club History
Written by Scott Stephenson on Wednesday, 12 May 2010 07:56

The Ice Dog's have signed Derek Campbell the highest profile import in club history this 2010 season.

campbell_AIHL

With at least 10 years Pro experience amongst the American Hockey League, East Coast Hockey League, United Hockey League and the Elite League in the UK Campbell's resume makes him the highest profile import to date at the Dogs and suggests he will be a force in the Australian Ice Hockey League and certainly worth watching.

Campbell can be considered a rare all-round hockey player that will add firepower upfront given the points he has put up in the Elite league, East Coast Pro, Canadian Major Junior and University hockey. On top of that he is certainly not afraid to drop the gloves if need be.

"Derek can put points on the board and send a message which is something we [the Dogs] feel we have lacked the last couple of seasons" explains Captain Anthony Wilson.
The Nepean, Ontario native from Canada won't be alone as the Ice Dogs have stocked up on import talent this season.

"We are proud to add an import of Derek's calibre to the line up" says Coach Mark Stephenson. "I think he will fit right in with our team, and his experience will be of great benefit to our pursuit for a national title this season".

The addition is not only a big plus for the Dogs but also for the local hockey community who will be able to see a high profile import on a consistent basis which is very important to the growth of the sport and gives the kids another idol they can follow.

Ice Dogs supporters and the Sydney hockey community can get their first glimpse of Derek at the home opening weekend starting May 15th and 16th when the Ice Dogs face the Penrith Bears and Melbourne Ice at the LCC Sports Complex.

The Bears have been working overtime in the offseason to update their online profile.

Social media was a major focus of the new website, allowing the Bears to stay in touch with their loyal fan base & sponsors through multiple online media channels. The new site sees integration with Facebook, Twitter, Youtube & Blog/RSS feeds.

Viewers will also notice the launch of “The Bear’s Trail” email newsletter. Subscribers will receive pre and post game reviews, specials on Bears merchandise and alerts to team events & promotions.

The offseason also saw the acquisition of additional member to the Bears Marketing Team - forward "Brett Nelson-Bond".

Gabriel Robledo Snr who has been managing the team over the past years, says "It’s great to have Brett's online marketing experience and skills to help now, we feel a strong online presence is the easiest way to communicate with fans and businesses wanting to sponsor the Bears." Brett Nelson-Bond said "The website has taken many months to design/build and it is a step in the right direction."

Skaters Network Glides into Sydney

With the various Winter Leagues starting up for 2010, and the AIHL about to start, it's always great to hit the fresh ice with new gear. For quite a number of years now, Addlon Trading have been supporting, sponsoring, and supplying gear to the Australian ice hockey community, not necessarily directly, but through the various Pro shops attached to our rinks, and also through shops like Skatebiz, Bladeworx, Hockey Heaven, and others.

I received word recently that a new shop in Meadowbank is about to open, and received this press release today. The shop is only the beginning of a revolution in the supply of ice hockey gear here in Australia, with an online shopping experience to come, and even the ability to order online and turn up to the shop to pick up the gear.

Does anyone remember the shooting lane setup at Hockey Heaven when they were in the Church St (Parramatta) shop? Well, I've heard that there's gonna be something similar set up in the Skaters' Network Shop, but bigger, and which you can actually skate on!

Ice Dogs Launch a new Website
Written by Rebecca Richards on Tuesday, 14 July 2009 09:49

The Sydney Ice Dogs launched their new website in early June, which can be found at http://www.icedogs.com.au.

Scott Stephenson sent through the following comments.

The Sydney Ice Dogs are proud to announce the launch of their brand new website this week created by ItoE Interactive.

Feeling a little more in the same league as other professional sports now Ice Dogs captain Anthony Wilson shares his excitement “we are working very hard to professionalise our team and grow the sport of ice hockey and feel that this new website gives opens up an opportunity”.

The new website even includes a Rookies Guide to Ice Hockey which aims to educate new supporters so they can learn the rules and enjoy the game even more “we received a lot of feedback from new supporters and friends who came to their first game last season, sharing that they loved what they saw but had no idea what they were watching [the rules]” adds Wilson.

But despite attracting new supporters high on the priority list the Ice Dogs want to increase connectivity with their current and loyal supporters by adding new features such as a weekly player profile and a blog where they can make comments and interact with each other and the team.

Marketing Coordinator/Ice Dogs forward Scott Stephenson says this is just the tip of the iceberg “there were a lot of cool ideas we had to put on the back burner to get this site up quicker, so there is plenty more to look forward too”.

Come and check out the website next time you are surfing the web at  "http://www.icedogs.com.au".
