BLUE TONGUES SIGN CANADIAN PLAYING IN GERMANY - By Vincenzo Rugari
Offensive defenseman Adam Gebara boosts the Blue Tongues blue line.
Offensive defenseman Adam Gebara boosts the Blue Tongues blue line. The Bartercard Gold Coast Blue Tongues have signed their fourth import, with Canadian Adam Gebara set to join the club for the 2010 Australian Ice Hockey League season. The 27-year-old Gebara, from Canada’s nation capital Ottawa, is a versatile offensive defenseman who has played in Europe for the past two years as a defender, and prior to that in America as a forward.
Starting his career with a four-year stint with the State University of New York, Gebara went on to play a year in the Southern Professional Hockey League in the US. For the past two years, he has played in Europe, with the Deggendorf Fire in Germany, and the Nijmegen Devils in Holland, where he played alongside the Blue Tongues’ returning MVP, Brad Smulders.
Gebara said he’s impressed by the team’s ambition in targeting the championship for 2010, and that he can’t wait to help.
“I know how eager the team is to win a championship and I hope to help accomplish that goal. I am an offensive defenseman, and I take both parts of my job seriously. So, I try equally hard to keep pucks out of our net and to put pucks in the opposing team's net. In doing so, I hope that I can be a part of a Gold Coast Blue Tongues’ championship winning team,” he said.
Adam GebaraBlue Tongues General Manager, Dave Emblem said that Gebara will be a “huge asset” to the side.
“For the last couple of years in Europe, Adam has played defence, and prior to that in North America as a forward, and we are looking to playing Adam as an offensive defenceman for the Blue Tongues this year,” he said. “Adam will be huge asset to an already bolstered scoring line up with the additions of imports Dallas Costanzo and Mike McRae, to go along with last year’s league leading scorer, Brad Smulders.”
“As was the case last year, the make up of our imports is so important, and how the guys assimilate with the local based players is what we look for. Our four signed imports are absolute gentlemen, and their keenness to win a championship, meet the locals, and experience our Australian lifestyle will go very far in us having our most successful season in the AIHL”, Emblem said.
Although he’s never been to Australia, and doesn’t know much about the Gold Coast, Gebara says he’s keen to start his adventure down under.
“I love to travel and see the world, and I have heard nothing but good things about Australia. It is a beautiful country and I have always wanted to visit. Being able to live there and play hockey at the same time is just the perfect opportunity for me, as hockey is my life. I know with some of the names of imports that I see in the league, the level should be good and make for some fast, exciting hockey,” he said. Last Updated on Wednesday, 24 March 2010 07:52

I think, Adam is a good guy! I do ot know well Deggendorf Fire, but Fire is one of the small Teams in the 3rd Division of Germany. They have to try the best with less money...
But last season, Deggendorf was the last of 11 Teams! Here you can see the final standings: http://www.pointstreak.com/prostats/sta ... sonid=4449 It is very interresting, Deggendorf has as many points than the 10th, but they made only 83 goals! The second worst offense team is on the 7. rank (Passau) and has 50 goals more than Fire!!!!!! But the Defense is all right for a last rank team...
Adam is a Defender, but he plays in the Offense in Passau. He made 5 goals and 8 Assists in 35 games, so it is good if you see, that the whole Team made only 83 goals in 40 Games (the best player of Fire (Herbert Geisberger) made 20 Goals and 15 Assists in 40 Games).
I think that he will help the Tongues!!!

OMG!!! I see this the first time: Do you know what the name of the Sponsor of Deggendorf means in german??? Well, it is a german name, but you will not belive what it means I think if I will translate it, I will be banned out of this forum!!! Adam must be the luckiest man in the world that he leaves Deggendorf... the poor players who have to stay there (in case of this sponsor...)

Nearly... well: Yes! But a very, very low level!

That's it! Important is, that a "Stricher" is a male person, but who really knows if Carman's mum is a woman, man or both (how I remenber it...)!
But now I have to tell you something: On the photo you can see the sponsor "STRICHER", and that is what we've talked about. I wanted to know what a company with such a funny name produce. I looked on the homepage of Deggendorf Fire, and the original name of this company is "STREICHER"!!!
So, I have to say: SORRY!!!

Not at all, it's been entertaining. What's an "E" between friends huh!
A little fold in the material can make all the difference huh!

Yes, the funny thing is, that you can not see the "E" on the Jersey on the picture.
But you can trust me, that is the only funny thing I've had for the last 5 days! It is like living in the middle age here in Europe... There is a vulcano on Iceland, and now there is a cloud of Ash and dust all over Europe and no plane can start or land. Perhaps you know it from the news?! Over 60,000 flights were canceled in Europe the last 5 days, and I am working at a hotel near an international Airport. Feels like Gulliver's Island...
Sorry, I'm going off topic...

Oh we know about it! Aussies are travelling to Europe in record numbers in the past two years with our dollar being so strong and the flights so cheap. Plus many Aussies travel to Turkey this time of year and can't go or are stuck half-way.
